Day 6 - Favorite cartoon character
My favorite comic last year was Penny Arcade’s The Tithe, which tells the story of Hanna, a girl who wakes up one night and ventures into the forest, following the call to become a Daughter of the Eyrewood. Daughters have a strong connection to the forest and magical powers which awaken at some point around their early teens, so girls cannot chose to become one if they haven’t been called… nor can they choose to stay home with their families if the have.
I loved the idea that some girls may want nothing more in life and run to the forest upon hearing the call, while others -like Hanna- would feel lost and a little afraid. You could imagine some kids falling asleep with their hands on their heads hoping that no sprouts would appear during the night, while others would have to be convinced every evening by their mothers to take off the flowers and leaves braided into their hair.
So, this is not Hanna. It’s just a girl who dreams of becoming a Daughter and plays in the woods everyday, trying on different types of flowers and imagining what life would be like away from home.

As you can see, this isn’t a real cartoon character… I’m bending the rules a bit here, sorry!
I do have a favorite character and I started drawing her and I like the draft and it’s inked and colored but I have to do it all over again because I messed up her shoulders and the colors are not exactly right and I could never post that until it’s perfect… which it will never be because it’s the best character in the world and it’s already perfectly drawn and I could never get it right and and… * starts sobbing and hides under desk *
